Raised hutch and chicks

I am totally confused about raised hutches and baby chickens falling out when they hatch! Will the newly hatched chicks be able to get out of the nest to eat and drink? It is 3 feet off the ground for easy cleaning. How does someone care for chicks when they are with momma and other flock. I have a hen sitting on eggs and should hatch in the next week. What do I do to take care of them?

it is best if you can lock them into the nest area for the first couple of days.

I prefer my broodies to be in their own place for the first month... less stress for me.

I have found that chicks are NOT very good at negotiating a ramp, for at least the first 2 weeks.
