I have been raising barnyard type chickens for years but like to get into Seramas. I have been watching many Serama youtube videos and notice that many people, especially in the asian videos, have a raised nest box mounted on the wall. Almost like a bird house. Is this a special requirement for Seramas? I usually have a milk crate on the coop floor for laying eggs.

This screenshot has the raised nest boxes that I see a lot in the videos: (not my set up)

Your setup is probably fine, it's a matter of personal preference. I've used everything from cardboard boxes on the ground, to fancy raised boxes, to just letting those stubborn chickens make a nest on the floor.

As long as what you have is safe and cozy, the chickens should adapt.

Best wishes and good luck with your flock!
