Chick starter? no as long as that is all they are eating and have plenty of fresh water, but if you introduce any other food they need grit.

Newspaper is not good bedding it is slick and can cause spraddle leg or just plain leg problems old clean towels or rubber shelf liner is best to use or at 7 weeks shavings they use for horses bedding that is what I use. If they are eating newspaper they dif don't need to have it around where they are. And grit when used should be put into a separate bowl that food and they will eat it as needed. Ducklings need food and water 24/7 until at least 8 weeks old then you can start taking away at night.
