This woman is wonderful. I wonder if she has chickens in her back yard. :p If not, she needs some. Those kids would love them.

Hi all! I'll introduce myself first. I'm Sara. I'm new to chickens and to Backyard Chickens. I met @Blooie in the May Hatchalong and saw that she had started this thread. We got chickens for our daughter, Grace, who was prenatally diagnosed with a rare type of spinal tumor that causes similar long term problems as spina bifida. She is scheduled to have the Mitrofanoff surgery the summer before kindergarten, and currently has a cecostomy button, which is similar to the MACE that Kendra had done.

@Blooie So sorry to hear what Kendra was going through, but glad they got it figured out without more surgery! Such a strong little girl!

Ha! We "scheduled emergency surgery" a few years ago for a vesicostomy revision when Grace's bladder kept prolapsing through the stoma. I thought that was an odd phrase as well at the time.

Katie sounds like a wonderful girl as well. That's so great that she connected with the camp like that. She will have so many wonderful summer memories.

Glad you found us! Grace is such a cutie pie! Don't let Kendra's issues with her Mitrofanoff scare you - it turned out that the entire problem was simply her positioning during the cath. Just talked to Jenny and Kendra is feeling great, playing with her Play-doh, and every cath has gone perfectly all day long. Of course, right now all Jen has to do is uncap the indwelling Foley, but she was getting nothing - or almost nothing - before uncapping the indwelling and Kendra cried the whole time. No more, so Jenny is now feeling much better about having it done. And yep, our Katie is one in a million!

@Cynthia12 It's too bad Richard is such a shy child!
