Raising Chickens For Dummies

Luke13:34 :

You all are hereby BANNED from BYC!! Don'tcha know the "Dummies" book was co=authored by the founder of BYC?

Now, run out and buy 10 copies each for your penance!

I didn't know it when I first bought it. I was reading through it and at one point it mentioned this website. So I looked at the section where they talk about the author and saw that one of the authors was the founder. I just bought chicken coops for dummies last week. I'm not even building a coop but I still wanted it for ideas for our existing coop.

Can't afford 10 copies. Does that mean I have to write a five hundred word essay on why everyone should buy the Dummies book?

I didn't get books, and really, I don't have to! This forum has taught me everything and if you have a question you can bet you will find an answer, but in books it could take days to find the right book or website... i would have to advise you not to waste the money...

I love my Dummies book! I bought it long before I knew about this website. I use both the book and this website for any questions I may have. The book has the added plus of giving the kids something to read if they want to know something about the chickens (yay for more reading time!). The website has the added plus for giving me something for more specific research about chickens or if I just want to look at other people's chickens.

Our local library even has e-books on the subject. I hope your library can help you, too. Ours had a couple good movie/dvd's, too, including MadCityChickens, and a real documentary which included the "Call Me Chicken" short. I met 2 local chicken keepers while at our library, too. Plus, once I found the chickens section, it was close to other subjects I love, pets and gardening!

(I am trying to raise 3 boys to be at least somewhat civilized, I advocate going OUT of the house and walking over to the library as much as possible, just to GET OUT THERE in the real world and know what it's like to co-habitate this life in 3 dimensions among other living, breathing humans. I thank God for our library, or my guys would almost never leave their computer screens

I got both the Storey Book and the Dummies book and found they really complement each other -- I too like to curl up and read them from time to time rather than getting everything online. I also have 'Chick Days' -- which was great for me as a newbie -- especially the pictures week by week of the chicks growing.
