Raising Chickens in Texas

I apologize if this is not the appropriate area. I did try to search for the information elsewhere. I have one of my hens who is staying in the coop whenever I let them out to do as they please. She stays in the coop, in a corner under the coop just sitting there. If myself or my son force the issue we can get her out of the coop where she walks around normal. She's not eating as much. I see no discharge from her eyes, maybe a slight raspiness to any sounds she makes. I am so new to this, I feel a little guilty like I should have learned more but then everybody starts at zero right? I honestly can't see or hear anything that is alarming to me, but what I don't know would fill a library. So, any advice? Also, I live in Poteet Texas. It is a really rural area, we don't even have an internet provider here, I used Starlink. I have called all morning to try to find a veterinarian. I am literally amazed being in this area to have no one have any clue is to how I can find one. I don't know what to do.

Do you have a cockerel or rooster that might be harassing her? Is there any possibility that she is broody?

Hello, we have no rooster, all hens. I finally found a veterinarian near me but unfortunately she died before I could take her. She wouldn't eat or drink. My son tried to give her nutrition through a syringe like thing. It was sad.

Take a close look at her feathers. Do you see any pin feather coming in? Are there a lot of feathers in the area where she is sitting. My east Texas chickens have started molting earlier than usual this year.
I have noticed more feathers in the coop, but none of them seem to be losing anything significant.

They die.. it happens.. raise more chicks... not many people know chicken illnesses... most of it is all chatter and guesses. There arent many vets for chickens in texas, and it'd be more expensive than raising a new chick anyways. Im in seguin. Not far from you.

Learn everything you can... ive been doing it for a good good while.. and still dont know illness stuff well. Its hard to diagnose things. Only a select few things are somewhat easy to see.

Focus on clean coop, clean water, good feed not TSC brand... and spray em all with permetherin every few mo the for mite treatments. Spray the coop with permethrin for mites and lice, throw out DE in the coop, apple cider vinegar "with mothers" in their water here and there, and shade from the heat...

That will get you a long ways right there. Easier to keep em healthy that to fiddle with illnesses.

And a dang secure coop!

I am so sorry for your loss.
