We're new to chicks, but were planning to plant a forage garden. Do you buy feed or grow your own? We're trying to figure out what grows well together in SE WY. We started pretty small (9 chicks), but are planning to grow the flock each year.

Welcome to BYC!

Most people purchase commercial bagged feed as it is formulated for proper growth and health. You can grow fodder for your chickens, or even ferment your own feed. Some people make home made mixes for their flocks as well. Stop by our Feeding your Flock section here on BYC and look thru some of the current threads on how others are feeding their birds....

And if you need any tips or hints on raising your new flock, check out our learning center as well for lots of good reads on all the aspects of keeping your flock...

Great to have you aboard and welcome to our flock!
