Raising Chickens with OCD

That's not a setback. That is a realization!!! Chicken poop comes in stages. Runny and clear, then solid and green, then kinda runny and yellow....

That was NOT a setback. That was a learning experience. Know how to tell the difference. Chickens are soft like silk. I never use gloves because I love the way feel against my skin. I am compulsive washer. I go out and play with the birds. Catch them, revel in their softness, catch ducks and stroke them freely. Then go inside with hands held outward like they have a disease. Then I wash. I do it several times a day on weekends. I love them birds!!!!

We suspected my youngest son has OCD but it turns out to be a form of autism. I find the animals do help him. I think animals are helpful regardless of what you have just because of the enjoyment of it. Animals never judge, never back stab and are always their to show you love. My flock bring my whole family enjoyment, and thats good for everyone

I have pretty terrible OCD and I take medication for it which helps relieve some of the anxiety, I just put my mind aside, animals and thier germs don't bother me near as much as humans and thier germs. I just can't cope with human germs... Good luck

My oldest DD has OCD. She sews as a way to curb her OCD. When you occupy your mind with something you truly enjoy that becomes an obsession. So hopefully raising chickens will do that for you. I know in the past birds bothered me. It was the poo issue that bothered me, but now that I have chickens that has stopped.Cant tell you how many times I have been poo'd on and cleaned bums up and dont give it a second thought. I will let you know even in people that dont have OCD chickens can come obsessive.

I have a dear friend who had a nervous breakdown. She was almost catatonic. Her husband brought home some chicks to take care of and it helped her to have them there. She is, years later, doing very well, still has her chickens that he brought home years ago. It is amazing to me to see the transformation in her.
