I have had the girls since September 2019 and they have done well overall, I lost a very nice hen last February to respiratory illness, the one vet that takes chickens was off for five days and she didn't make it. I have to thank this site for all the information I get from all the people that leave comments because it taught me a lot. I separated her from the other hens and fed her water for two days with an eye dropper but she didn't make it. I felt bad to see her suffer but there wasn't much I could do, every egg she laid was a double yoker and she was the only one that did that. The other nine seem to be doing well, I have a raised coop and a totally enclosed run, I have way to many predators to leave them out in the open, although I let them free range over all my land for about eight months I couldn't chance it any longer cause the foxes in the area were taking a toll on the local chickens. I really enjoy the and totally spoil them but I live in upstate New York and through the cold and snow and short days they continue to give me some eggs daily. I have a window in the coop but no artificial lighting so I am kind of surprised I'm getting eggs. I don't post often but would like to thank everybody for all the good info they leave on this site.
