5 out of the 6 were fertile and hatched and are doing great thanks to all the help for this site. The nest I found had 20 fertile eggs 5 duds. the 20 eggs are in the bator now. excited to see what they all turn out to be in color. One more hen that should be hatching anytime is yet to be found. sigh. but i will continue to search daily.. and my other hens are acting like they are looking to nest again. will they lay again this year????

They get along pretty well. Guineas pair up boy girl boy girl. Though you can go with less males but having more males than females is just fine they spar with each other.

In the winter, do the full grown guineas need a heat lamp if they are in a coop? We average the in the teens at night during the winter, but it does get colder some nights. I need to know so that I make sure we have electricity wherever we build the guinea house

They might it wouldn't hurt. Though from what I have read they adapt pretty well to cooler temps. You can get an electrical connector that plugs into an outlet that will switch on at 45 degrees They are great for tank heaters as well as heat lamps for coops.

Great thread, guys! I am learning so much!

Me too. everytime I read a thread I learn something new. I used to have a friend that would always say "if your green your growing, if your ripe you rot...."

Aww, 5 new babies, congrats! Hope you get a great hatch rate from your most recent batch of eggs too!
yes your Hens should lay again this year if they are still breeding, your weather is working to their advantage, and they can find shady cool spots to lay a new clutch of eggs in. Mine stop laying when it gets too hot and dry... and they are starting to give it up already, which is fine, I'll have hatched at least 600 keets by the time they call it quits.... if I don't call it quits first lol.

can you look at the pic i posted and tell me what color this keet might be. I have tried looking on line but I am only guessing. I feel you would have a better idea.. thanks Terri

I think it looks like a pearl gray (my favorite) It'll look black with little white dots when it's an adult. The first time I found a polka dotted feather I couldn't believe how special it was.
