I just bought 4 guineas (5 weeks old) today at the MD swap. I was going to just feed them my chick starter, but after doing some research and reading this thread, I'm going out tomorrow to get some gamebird medicated feed with the higher protein.
my eggs are hatching, my eggs are hatching. just waiting now to see how things go. These are the 6 I got out from momma's nest. First time I have hatched them in the bator. Here's hoping that all goes well. Have everything ready for them. The other 2 hens are still MIA. I hear them during the day and have searched the woods high and low and can not find them. I just hope the eggs or eggs and momma dont meet the same disaster as the last nest of eggs. They sure are good hiders... will post pics when new babies get here.....

Excellent score on the organic game bird feed, I'm completely envious!
Adorable babies too, they are so gorgeous at that age!!! I hatch a lot of pure Whites, and it's really hard for me to part with them because they are so beautiful!
Well, Cackle Hatchery sent me an e-mail special yesterday, lol. I have 30 straight run guinea keets due to arrive on Wednesday
I was planning on getting some next year, but this just kind of pushed it up. I REALLY don't need 30 of them, so I hope to sell about half once they arrive...we shall see.
I have a few questions...
How do the males get along?? Is it like roosters, where if you have too many, they fight and harass the hens too badly??
In the winter, do the full grown guineas need a heat lamp if they are in a coop? We average the in the teens at night during the winter, but it does get colder some nights. I need to know so that I make sure we have electricity wherever we build the guinea house
