Raising Guinea Fowl 101

Every time I think we have chased him away for good he shows up again.

IMO the chances of 'chasing it away' are about zero when they know there is a food source there... When they disappear for a few days or week it's because they have rotating hunting grounds and during that time they are not around your coop they are away simply hunting the other areas in the other directions, this temporary disappearance fools a lot of people...

Has anyone tried bobcat urine????

Never found any of that stuff in a bottle to be effective, maybe if applied every day in copious amounts, but as the smell diminishes in the sun and rain so does it's effectiveness same with duration, might fool them for a period of time but they will eventually test the area...

I know the peeing trick works for raccoon.

From my experience with raccoons is might fool them for a bit, but they will wise up to it in short and ignore it... I had a raccoon stalking my yard that would pace the area and see if the dog was kenneled, inside the house or lose in the yard before jumping the fence... Also consider inner city raccoons, they have no problem raiding dumpsters in alleys that people pee around, in or behind with regularity, once it becomes the norm they tend to push the limits and start to ignore...

I read that mountain lion or timber wolf urine is a great deterrent to put around the property line because they are both natural enemies of the coyote! It also sound sprinklers can be used apparently they're not fans of getting sprayed w water either! Lol a radio may work but it said some of them have become fearless of humans or are too enticed by an easy meal to care. They said if you do see it yell scream shout wave arms act crazy to instill that fear of humans again but that it will take a few times of doing so to work and when it comes to losing babies every visit I'm not a fan of that method!! Hope this helps! I just feel soo bad for you I had to do some recon and try to help! Good luck!

Um.... there is also the bucket and watering can method.... Just sayin.....

dog in front of me is a Rhodesian ridgeback.... Sadie.... sweet dog owned by my roommate... Wouldnt mind having one if I could rescue one...

sadly she dug a hole by the outouse to get cool because my roomate didnt believe in dogs in the house. the house blew over about three years after she passed....

I want to rebuild....

the view in the distance is Mexico. the border is only two miles away.

I just candled my guinea eggs for the hatch on or around the first. (with guineas I never know)..

I had "planted" 82 eggs, I have 74 that looked good today!

I took 46 eggs out of the nest under the "picnic" table replaced them with 2 dozen golf balls. I hope they are as dumb as they act and keep laying there.

Good luck with your hatch. What are you going to do with all those hoodlums?

I will be selling everything in the incubators, I hope.

The ones with broodies I will keep as replacements for those killed during gang fights, car accidents and sent to prison.

I have 7 with a turkey and 11 with a Partridge chanticler and I just put a dozen eggs under a Speckled Sussex today.
