Raising Guinea Fowl 101

Just sime pics of my tiny terrors. Although they have been great lately. I just think a turkey hen laying on her back was to good of an oportunity.

I Love your white Guineas....they're really pretty! I lost my only white guinea last year to a predator and would love to have more of that color. Right now I'm overrun with buff dundottes and lavenders and wish I could trade them for some whites and chocolates!

I've found that my Guineas don't really like the normal nesting boxes that I've put in the coop in the past. Now, I don't even use any of those traditional boxes anymore. Instead, I put plastic wheelbarrows filled with straw in the coop and find that almost all my hens use them. I have only 2 hens that even try to lay eggs outside the coop now that I have those wheelbarrows in the coop. The only bad thing is that the keets can't get out very well so I squeeze some food and water into the wheelbarrow when they start to hatch and then take the keets out after a few days when all of them are done hatching. You might try that and see if it helps too.
Here is a picture of two of my hens on eggs in one of the wheelbarrows:

I'm so glad to see this! I knew that someone had written about wheelbarrows but could not remember who. So you have more than one at a time in the coop? I think it's amazing they'll use these, I love it. Do you leave them in the coop all year round, or put them in for springtime, or???

Right now I have 2 wheelbarrows in the coop. I may get another one because I've had 4 hens trying to lay and hatch eggs in one wheelbarrow at the same time, which was way too crowded! I leave the wheelbarrows in all year long because I'm afraid they would have a complete meltdown if I put them in there after they hadn't seen them all winter. They've been completely terrified over a new feeder before, so I'm worried they wouldn't lay eggs in a UFO.....(unbelievable freaky object)!

Thank you! Yes I love my Whites too. I just wish they were as big as the pearls. They are a little smaller. The buffs and lavenders are beautiful!!

I love your white guineas. I have three white ones and I like them better than the pearls in some ways. I hope to hatch some more in the spring and get a bigger flock of white ones.

We got a bit of snow and the gangsters didn't like it. Probably thought it made their feet cold. At any rate, they hung out on the side porch all day yesterday. You could hear their racket throughout the entire house.

Oh my!! Did you have nightmares because of this?

Nah.... I have become acclimated to it. That side porch has always been a favorite of theirs, although they usually spend less time on it. The snow yesterday must have really freaked them out though, because that was the first time they stuck around on the porch long enough that I could take their picture. Usually as soon as they see my camera in the window, they are all gone before I can click the shutter.
