Raising our 1st set of CX meaties

On a lighter note, Crook neck gal is doing well. Yay! Least I know I can fix somethin. Shes gained a bit of weight, head *almost* straight and bumping the others outta the way at the feeder :)

:thumbsup. Great news. Good luck with the rest of the nuggets! :fl

HA! Mine do this now and it is insane. Not cute after 3 weeks. At 6 weeks it is mildly annoying, two more weeks and you are not looking forward to feeding time - and thinking up plans to distract them while you fill the troughs ;)

If my CX have any issues with legs, it's because of me stepping on the feet at feeding time. We use a trolly and accidentally broke a foot because they don't move :|

Feeding time is the only thing I did not like about the CX. Love them otherwise! I have one laying now :)

Lol I really thought one was gonna get smushed.

Can't remember the age.. I think 5-6 weeks.

You are the person that started my CX obsession lol I actually wanted to do CX, then research made me so not want to do them lol...then I googled non-caged/tractored and found your thread. :) thanks for that. I love your videos & pics, they crack me up and prove they can be ranged and active.

Awesome!

They are looking good!

I keep expecting to check and find a dead one :/ but have been very happy to have Not! They ate like monsters today.

Started grains in their FF yesterday night, fed this morning & added a small bowl of sand like the 1st time. Neat watching them take turns at the sand so nicely and then trample each other for feed lol How do they just *know* they need that lil nibble vs just gobbling it up? Love nature :)

They're weighing in at an average of 4.5 ounces.

This girl is obviously not hungry...

This is the other thing we did. Add more heat. Hubby set up a heater with a thermostat, they're still down stairs. We didn't want to expose them to the weather this weekend. Got sorta really Frickin cold here for the last few days & with the losses we started having we wanted them close by.

They get colder a lot more than layers do. I lost one at 4 weeks because it was too cold then, he was fully feathered and it was 80. The cold starts the fluid problem they get. I have found if they start getting slow and get that fluid buildup in either the chest or bum they can be recovered by extra heat. I had one that required heat until processing so I put a heat lamp in their outside pen on only one roosting spot. That one always went for the heat when the others went for the cooler spots.
