I wish I could get away with that.....it was 9 and 11 degrees on two successive nights this past week....lol. I don't know exactly when I will get anymore chicks....probably not till February/March.
how do you feed and water them? that is not very tall.

They all made it through the night outside

I could hardly sleep lol
Yay!

That's great! Are you providing any extra heat for them at night? How old are they now? Ideal Poultry confirmed my shipping date (for 15 CX) on the 18th of this month. Unfortunately I'm not going to be able to get them outside and off the heat as quickly as the last set, but it needs to be as soon as possible, lol!

eta: Oh wow, I was just looking at your temps for the next week. Our days are similar temps, but the desert nights are much colder. Sigh. Looks like I'll have to have these broilers on heat for a while. Well, the few CX we were able to process last batch made such an impression on my husband that he is much more amenable to having the CX in the garage for a little while.

I messaged you :)
I use a regular waterer on a board to keep bedding/grass out of it, til about 3 weeks when they can reach the auto waterer cups and food is served in a 4ft trough that is screwed into wood blocks on ends to keep from tipping. Easy to scoop feed and dump in the troughs as needed. I keep their FF bucket right in the coop.
It's about 5ft tall and slants lower than that in back. I do have to bend down, I'm 5 foot 8 or so, but its not to bad.

Ya u sent me to much to read on my phone which is a good thing lol. I'll b home soon and read your detailed message.. Thanks a bunch!

I ordered mine from purely poultry and they arrived in a box From Ideal Poultry lol.
I didn't add extra heat. I did take painters plastic sheets (.99 ents dollar store) and staple it around the openings that are netted to keep drafts out and I'm in Louisiana so the winter is mild. I have 2 brooders ready in case we have a freeze before they're feathered in more. But really wanted them outdoors. I put in a few flakes of a hay bale and a bin on its side that they nest in at night giving them a smaller area to cuddle if need be. I also have the lights on 24hrs at the moment because they went peeping crazy at sunset (6 watt led outdoor walk way light)
So far so good. They do feather in quicker with slightly lower temps and FF feed I've noticed :)
