Really liking your coop. How big is it?

This one is a layer coop my husband built that the meaties have been using as a brooder last few cold nights.
I love the simple convenience of this coop and that its 3 pieces we can move if need be. The auto waterer and sliding doors are my favorite lol
We used the same door slide for the rabbitry outdoor area.
This coop was intended for a breeding trio of ameraucana and stands 5 feet tall, is about 6 feet deep and 8 feet wide. They hoop coop is being relocated and a new teenage chick coop and walk in coop are being built in it's place. Both will look similar but be taller.

Well I ordered from our local Ag office. The sheet only stated flock NPIP numbers and breed as "white boilers". Got a killer deal I couldn't pass up on this batch (they only do it once a year) but they do NOT grow like all my CX batches. Lol super slow growers lol still faster than a DP or heritage breed but dang, I have what look like 2-3 week old CX not the 6 week olds I'm used to being close to processing :/

We have a new set coming next week. Bet they out grow these guys.
Aw, so funny and cute when they sunbathe.  Are yours Cornish X or just regular white Cornish?

Are you going to keep some of the hens from that slower growing group? If they end up growing nice and big you could cross them with a rooster that is a faster growing breed and maybe get some Nuggets from your own birds. I know you like to do the big groups to sell though. I do know a lady that has a really nice looking big Barred Plymouth Rock Rooster that wants to re home him :( They keep having predator issues and don't want to have chickens anymore.

Can anyone tell me how many weeks about are meat chickens on chick feed? do you need transition them to grower/finisher by mixing both like you do other animals or??? Sorry if this has been covered before, been reading through forums and don't recall. Thanks

I should try and keep a few...good idea. I'll watch them grow tho. If they're steady and stay healthy and range well, they can stay lol maybe

It varies by grower. I use chick feed throughout and cut with grains by 3 or 4 weeks. Others do it different.

How is this batch of slow growing broilers doing? How much do they weigh now?

Not sure if I mentioned this on the LA thread but someone I know who ordered the same broilers that we did, processed all of her last week (I think). She had them ALL processed somewhere in Baton Rouge. She said the live weight was 3 lbs to 5 lbs. Not bad. I think she ordered 100 like I did.

I"m not sure how long I will keep my batch around but we'll see. I"ll settle for 5 lbs dressed live. That's plenty enough. Well regardless of our finished weight, I'm glad that I was able to get them at such a cheap price and I'm glad that I was able to tell you about the broilers at such a low price and get you in on this cheap deal along with me and others, so that you could order some for you and your family. My early Christmas present to you. :)

I am also glad you shared and that we got them for so cheep! Thank you :)

They are between 3-4lbs now. Quite awhile to go if we want 4lb dressed. It's almost half the size we need :/ your dressed squished guy gave me hope tho! Maybe these hold weight closer lol
