Raising our 1st set of CX meaties

Hubby build them a cave and set it in the coop and they stayed outdoors last night. It was 40 degrees. This pleases me lol they're staying outdoors now. Very active and enjoying the sunshine we've had. They are in a feed schedule now. We don't feed 7-7. Rest of the time is free range and the 2x's a day feeding FF. They're approx 4 weeks. Weighing in at almost 2lbs. Hehehe I drool a lil when they're sparing thinking "uh oh I might have to eat the winner bully...lol doh.

Lol I will! I have to take pics tomorrow morning. I'm at work and was super busy.
He made like a ramp with sides outta some scrap wood and covered that in moving blankets. Stays nice and toasty! Next batch we will be lining the perimeter inside the hoop coop with hay bales 2 high to block drafts. We will release bales as needed like a build in brooder that turns to bedding lol

Okay, the cave sounds sorta like the back 1/2 of my meatie pen. The pen is A-frame, and I have a 6x3 piece of corrugated plastic folded over the pen for shade, rain protection, and a tiny bit insulated for warmth.

Anyway, eek, I just realized I forgot my phone at home. The chicks shipped out from Texas yesterday. I'm in AZ...should I expect them today? I was thinking tomorrow would be the delivery date. I totally spaced off and don't have anything set up. And darn, I should go home and get my phone in case the post office calls. I've gotten all my previous chicks locally, never through the mail.

That's a good idea with the bales lining the inside.

Hahahaaha, kuntrygirl, you have a 100 chicks on the way?

I'm on the look out for a 6' branch with a hefty enough diameter to be used for a roost in the meat pen. Do you know how hard that is to find in the desert? At least, a branch lacking thorns? I'll use a 2x4 if I have to, but hate using good lumber when something natural will do.

One last thing, angelisci, your broilers are just a few days away from being Cornish game hens! hahaha. Almost 'real' meat now!

Looking good! What do you have their feed in? I hope the temps start to warm up by the 3rd week in January. I think mine will be ready to go outside at that time. I'm getting nervous now. I'm ready to cancel my order. :/
