Raising our 1st set of CX meaties

To inform me I need to raise my prices. Lol was a new one for me because I'm used to hearing a price is too high.
Way To Go !!!!!! :thumbsup

Did you decide how much you will sell your broilers for?
Even got a few calls from another local selling at $5/lb successfully. She was nice, until I said I wasn't gonna up my price to stay higher...ill only need to raise it with food cost and that's going to improve soon even so she'll be mighty mad when we have big sales. I'd love $2/lb affordable healthy natural local food. Not $5.

I didn't weigh them live, I don't own a scale, I had to borrow grandma's. :( I was looking at previous posts, I saw some talk of allowing them to grow out past recommended processing times. I don't recommend it. We lost two last week and they were slow growers aged 26 weeks. During processing I noticed some of ours were so near heart attack it wasn't funny. Some had fluid on their hearts, enlarged lungs etc.

We don't need that much time. Probably by Thursday we will be at 4-5lbs dressed size. Had a change of an order freeing up 3 live holdbacks...it was like a bidding war and the 2 emails I got requesting the extras were time stamped at the same time! I only noticed cuz I said sorry 1st come 1st serve lol and looked and they both came thru at 5:06pm lol doh.

I
Yup batch number 2 on this thread is 8 weeks today :)

We will be processing a set of larger ones because people who want them want them at NON super sizes lol
Theyre all healthy and growing still, foraging farther and farther.. exploring nest boxes...they don't lay early too right? Didn't even think of longer lives, they could all make it with the flock for years I'd bet...under a watchful eye with food lol
But probably half Monday and half the following Sunday :) I'm excited. A lot of work I wanna see a yummy product!
. I meant to quote this post. :) I wanted to illustrate that they wouldn't make it with the flock. Sorry for any confusion.

Something else! I wanted to do this Sunday, but I didn't have the right electronics available. This thing... I never saw it butchering before... I thought it was CANCER or something.

Now I know better, these are EGGS! I had never processed hens before. My dad died laughing when I texted him the picture.

And then they look like this when they are more ready to lay!
These birds were slow growers, and I didn't butcher until just shy of 27 weeks.

The yolk was fully encased in albumin and had the white and everything, but had not started developing a shell.

Sorry for the "science lesson" but I was fascinated.

She wanted you to raise your prices because she is going to lose business if you keep your prices below hers. Everyone will buy your broilers instead of hers and she will lose out on the deal.

oooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am so glad that you posted this. I saw a cooking show on TV this Sunday and it was about those internal eggs from the pullets that are about to lay. There is a restaurant that makes a special soup with those eggs. People LOVE the soup and they can't make enough of it. I also was fascinated when I saw it. The man that owns all of these chickens can look at the pullets and pick out the ones that have all of these eggs inside of them and picks them out and processes them. They showed him picking out the chicken, processing it and showing all of the eggs in the pullet. They also showed how this special soup was made. It was sooooooo interesting.

Oh my! Who'd have thunk! Even using unlaid eggs! That's really neat.

I will try to find the link to the TV and post it. It was so interesting.
