Do you ever have a problem with eating what you butcher? I have a problem sometimes with what I clean or cook and try to eat.

In the beginning I was nervous that it would bother me because I get attached so easily. Now, I actually feel the opposite. Because we raised it and I know what they ate, how well they lived and that my family is eating fresh, healthy food right off the farm and it pleases me so much. It's incredibly hard to buy meat and eggs in a regular grocery store now

But ON processing day after butchering many I usually don't eat. We have a big breakfast before hand because working for hours and such tasks while hungry really messes with me and I'm not hungry during processing lol. So we have a big hearty breakfast, will process and then often have a light dinner late.

Seeing the dressed birds packaged and resting in the fridge makes me feel amazing.
Knowing we CAN do it is enough, continuing to do it is an accomplishment I feel. It is a lot of work raising, sheltering and then preparing for food. Makes me enjoy the meal even more. Plus, wasting it would be heartbreaking!

I worked up to bigger numbers. Started with one mean ol chicken, went to 25, then 50 now 92 CX are out there lol testing our limits! We process our own birds and its just the two of us so we have to be careful, raising 10 is like raising 50 to me. But processing 10 is waaaay different than processing 50! The two of us do well at it and have a system and even purchased a plucker and made specialized equipment, but it is still A LOT of work. Not afraid of work mind you but in Louisiana summer? It's Soooooo flipping hot there's a lot more effort in processing (more ice, more breaks, have to work faster)

Brave I'd think comes in at about 5 weeks when going in to feed them DON'T TRIP! Use a buddy system! Lol 250 is a massive flock of CX. Well we free range so it would be here lol we have a few acres available to them and the batches of 50 can decimate a decent size area. But we are also in the south and plants/grass are almost invincible and bounce back in a few weeks.
