Your joking! The barred rocks are aggressive! I just got two cockerels of that breed! I don't really need the other rooster it's just that they're both so friendly! My Jersey Giant Rooster is very kind, it's just the little Americana that's beating him up!

Not all Barred Rocks possibly. I only have a small amount. From two different lines. But the male line is also mixed with Rhode Island Red, and I hear they can be aggressive.

But then also....they are just doing what roosters do! They are territorial, protect their hens, etc.......

I have had good offspring from the breeding pair.....even though all cockerels end up in the freezer anyways. This hatch, a new one....of the 3 barred rocks, I have 2 cockerels. They seem to be aggressive. They might end up being eaten sooner than 6 months. They are 8 weeks now.

I have Rhode Islands as well. I think the Rhode Barred cross is the Black Sex Link, isn't it? My eight week old cockerels are very sweet to me, but those Rhode Islands can get nasty. One cockerel zeroed in on six other cockerels twice his size! The Rhode Island Rooster is very nice and calm to hold, though. I have around four barred rocks. Yes it is most definitely what they regularly do, and sometimes it is worth to excuse aggression sometimes. When I had a tame rooster a crow took some chicks away and he just left it to the poor hens to deal with! A more aggressive rooster is a better choice to keep crows away. A person I know has to carry a tin garbage can lid (like a shield) to deter the rooster from attacking! The roosters are calming down now, though.

Seriously aggressive roosters...ones that attack and flog humans...are NEVER going to calm down. Those boys are best left to the pressure cooker. Mine are all good roosters, and have never attacked me. The RIR and the BR I got as 1 year olds from the next door neighbor lady. So they didn't really know me or accept me at first, for the first few months. But they know me now, and will follow commands if I get on to them for something or another.
I don't normally name chickens, but it has helped in their training.

Yes naming them does actually help! I name all of my chickens and the roosters come to their name, with exception of Chevy Bevy the bantam. I've never had a rooster hop at me but it sounds very possible. Well I did have one four month old hop at me, and I am anticipating the day I get him back! Just one more month old cock!

When I was a kid we had two RIR roos at one point. They divided the girls up and went out free ranging all day, keeping their girls together in two tight groups. Then every night they went back into one coop to sleep. I don't remember them fighting at all with each other. But I do remember them fighting me all the time.

I didn't know anything about raising chickens, having roosters, or free ranging. We didn't get chickens till 2011, and I had to learn it all online. I have since found out that it is better to have a good rooster handy to keep watch and be able to alert the hens and chicks to any danger. One of the breeder pairs I have, an Easter Egger rooster and his OEGB hen, he fought off the hawk that attacked and almost killed his hen. He's a keeper.

I've had a hen that did that! My rooster kills weasels and mice that get in, but that's nothing compared to a hawk! Tell your cock that I am impressed with his protectiveness! My rooster is scared of Sunflower heads!

I'm in the process of raising two roosters.

New Hampshire and a leghorn.The leghorn is a wee bit older,and some how with his skinny self manages to beat Zeus (The new Hampshire) up.They have been fighting for a few months now,but Zeus is beginning to run from any fight he gets into with Savage,(Thank god,I hated hearing those screams for plead).

At one point I do expect the fighting to stop,but I know occasional fights across the yard are gonna happen,just hope they aren't brutal.Although,Zeus may be the lower cockeral,but i suspect he is gonna be twice the size of savage when they age up,and some serious pecking order rules will be layed,just hope they ain't brutal!Do you guys think they'll fight for who's boss again?

I think its gonna be good keeping 3 roosters around.I have what like 22 hens,so yup,this will really help things out.
