any one have any suggestions on a ramp design that will allow chicks to climb up and down? I had a broody hen and gave her a couple of chicks, and they follow her when she goes out of the coop. They can slide down the ramp we have but they can't get back up it...too far between steps. any suggestions would be appreciate! thanks!

If the ramp isn't too steep, you could put an old carpet that you're not overly attached to on top of it to give more traction. Not the thick kind that's used as flooring in the States, but more of a thin area rug sort of thing. Something not too slippery. An old knitted blanket might work too.

Hey ! those are both great ideas, thank you.

I did put something together, and one of the chicks was able to successfully make it into the coop but the other one did not.
And it completely blocks the ramp, so the other big chickens don't know what to make of it and mill around and stare at it. (funny thing: the exception was mom. Aptly named "scaredy" Cat, she went right up, and one chick followed, after a few mis-tries). when I saw the big chickens not willing to use it, I caught the other chick, put her with mom, then took the thing out. Big chickens went right up. that tells me I need to do something that won't cover the existing ramp, so as not to freak out the big ones.

always great to know other chicken owners are out there, and we got each others backs!
Thanks again!
