This is an excellent starting point on what kind of birds might be good for your situation.

I have a Leghorn that wants to be going and doing 24/7. She's obnoxious if she doesn't get to go out. She starts by rapping on the window, then proceeds to bikbik bikbikbik bikBikBIBIKBIKBIK!!!until she gets her way.
My Brahma hen Slifer was a laid back bird; she'd stay right by my side all day if she could. She'd go out, do her business and come back in.
My Silkie/Cochin mix likes to be out, but not as much as Obelisk, the Leghorn.
I couldn't believe how small the chicks were when I raised Tom Brunanski and Jerry Remy.
You'd be amazed at what types of predators come out of the woodwork when you get birds: Coyotes, Hawks, Cats, Dogs, Raccoons, Snakes, Possums, Skunks, Foxes. Today there was a flock of Turkey hens in the neighbour next door's yard.
