Random chicks...

Ok, finally got the kids to bed so I can update. Went around asking the neighbors if they were missing any chicks. Started with the ones I know have chickens. Everyone kept saying no, all of theirs were accounted for. Started asking neighbors who didnt have chickens. Not theirs. Was talking to my neighbor directly next to me, yeah they were hers. She went and got chicks from tractor supply, had them in a box in her house and husband said no, they didn't have money for a coop or to care for them and that they have no idea how to care for them so early this morning she went through my back gate and just tossed them in the run. She said she did it around 730. Must have done it either right before or after I was out there and had unlocked the chicken gate. To say I was pissed is an understatement. I told her she needs to ask before ever doing something like that, my older girls could have killed them, they could have froze to death as we were only 28 that early, and that my flock are carriers for a respiratory disease. She didnt seem too apologetic.

This is getting long but she did say they were supposed to be all pullets, 2 cuckoo marans and 2 barnevelders. We will see. I guess I know need a lock and key for my back gate also. 🤬 and now ontoomof the MG problem I'm now extra worried because I've been hearing not so great things about tractor supply chicks this year.
I’m sorry you have unkind neighbors. That must be very frustrating. I am very lucky and blessed with kind, friendly neighbors, but I hope your neighbors realize that they can’t do this and stop.

So we went to lowes and picked up a camera. I also picked up a lock for the gate. Chicks are in a brooder in our garage with heat, feed, and water. Neighbor came over today and said she was going to try and get a small coop and run then would take them back. I told her too bad, they're mine now. I'm not going to feed them and care for them until she decides to figure it out. Had she asked then maybe (big maybe because of the circumstances)but she exposed those chicks to my Mg flock and I dont trust her to properly care for them and keep it from spreading. She said shes going to call the cops. Be my freaking guest. I even texted her again last night to get it in writing that she threw them in there so she couldnt claim I stole them. Might egg her house and blame it on the chickens.

Good idea!

Might egg her house and blame it on the chickens.
Sounds pretty tempting :thumbsup But I hope you're just daydreaming, because actually doing it would probably not help relations with that neighbor :(

Yup. We all know someone like that!
Unfortunately I live next to her. Everyone else in this neighborhood is awesome. But her, we all avoid her. When we first got chickens she bought me a carton of eggs because we obviously bought chickens because we cant afford eggs 🤦‍♀️ she also asked how much we pay for everything. We paid our house off in 3 years. That shut her up real quick to ever question what we can and can not afford.

The week after we moved into our house a man bought this 1 acre parcel right above our house (we live in a wash basin). He built a shack and pulled up random junk, spray painted Welcome to Trump Hill, on top of that they have no water. Turns out they are really nice people, just not their yard. 😒
