Sorry I haven't been keeping up with everyone! I've been SO busy getting my house ready to sell and packing up for the big move! Just gotta get my sale closed...

I hope everyone had fantastic holidays and has a great New Year! It'll be an exciting one for me, my fam, and my birds!

I'll try to get caught up over the weekend...

Good luck with your packing/moving Aunt Angus! Post pics of the new place and your lovely flock when you get settled.

Oh my! So much has changed for me! The dang pandemic has thrown a HUGE wrench in our plans. I am not complaining - it's been so much worse for do many others that I have nothing to complain about! Here's a quick rundown:

1) Hubby contracted COVID. His symptoms were fairly mild, though unpleasant. It was like he had bronchitis, but he's fine now and back to work. I got it, too, but it was very mild for me. Just fever and feeling really icky for about 2 weeks.

2) Original plan was to move to a beautiful house we'd put an offer on out by the ocean in Humboldt County (very northern coast of California). But job offers up there went buh-bye with the pandemic. No jobs = no house (obviously).

3) Moved in with mom since we sold our house in mid-February - right before everything shut down.

4) Someone in mom's neighborhood complained about Picotee (even though it is zoned for roosters out here) and, after trying to rehome him for about a month to no avail, I now have a house chicken/alarm clock.

5) We decided to look for a house elsewhere by searching through county animal ordinances to see where we could move that would allow chickens, roosters, and goats (my next project) AND be within commuting distance to our current jobs.

6) Our offer was accepted on a little house in Nevada County in the Sierra Foothills! Just 2 acres, and some are woods, but we can put our alarm clock (Picotee) back out with the hens where he belongs!

BONUS: My son and his fiancee are developing a property out there about 10 minutes from our place.

BONUS BONUS: The new house comes with an 8 x 10 shed that will make a fantastic coop! 80 sq ft = room for more chickens!

More pics will come soon!

Sounds like things are looking up! 80 sq ft shed! :drool
Right?! With sliding windows and everything! Gotta add more windows, of course, and ventilation. And gotta figure out how to Fort Knox that sucker. The shed is against a cement retaining wall, which seemed advantageous at first. Then I realized predators could climb easily down onto it from above. Gotta move it first thing! We go into escrow on the house tomorrow! I'll post pics once things get settled.

Now that I think of it, I'll post pics of the setup the girls have now at my mom's house. My poor roo is house-bound, but he's become an absolute sweetheart. I guess without the hens around, he's mellowed out. Or he's depressed... My flock will be reunited soon! Hopefully, they'll accept him.

Anyone have any experience re-introducing a bird? Maybe after an illness/injury. Any advice for me?
