I currently have 3 hens in my flock. We have been getting 2-3 eggs a day, all in the nesting box. To preface, our weather has been very up and down. One day it’s 80 and the next it’s cold and raining.

Today I found an egg with a very soft shell (you may even say no shell. It was very jiggly) underneath the waterer. Then I found another egg, very soft, jiggly outside and cracked, underneath the roosting bar but inside the coop, which makes me think it was laid while one of them was up there.

Is this concerning? What should I do?

If you are home a lot during the day, I would look at the hens to see if any have a lowered tail, are lethargic and puffed up. Watch to see who is the nest box and check eggs in a half hour. If you can identify the layer, then give them 300-600 mg of calcium citrate with vitamin D 3 orally into her beak daily for 1 week to see if it helps to harden the egg shells.
