So I've always been told that fireworks are dangerous, and thought "No duh, of course they are. Unless you're safe with them anyways." I've never actually set off real fireworks or been around people who have. I've only seen the ones that are done for the public for the 4th of July and such. Well, until now anyways.
I went over to my friend's house last night, just to hangout and such. We ended up going over to the neighbors' with her family to watch them set off fireworks in the backyard, like everyone has been doing lately since they've been legalized. And it was all fun and games, and the whole time I'm thinking, "someone's gonna get their hand blown off by these or something..." Of course, I never actually believed something bad would happen. That is, until one of the fireworks malfunctioned and sent rockets of fire shooting in all directions. We were all sitting a little ways away, and as soon as it happened, I saw everyone hit the deck. But, unfortunately, I didn't exactly register what was happening in time to react. Before I knew it, a bright ball of light came straight towards my face. I dodged and felt something hit the top of my head. Nothing hurt, but when I put my hand to the front of my hairline, a sense of dread filled me as I felt a patch of singed hair that smelled burnt. After a quick examination in the bathroom, my worries were confirmed; I had burned a patch of my hair right down to the roots, right at the front of my hairline. I can't say I didn't cry about it, because I did. And laughed. And then cried some more.
Then again, it could've gone a lot worse. For one, it was a little to the side of my hairline, where I normally flip my side bangs over, so they kinda cover it and it's actually not that noticeable unless I pull my hair back and you look really closely at it. Secondly, it could've gone A LOT worse. If I hadn't dodged a little, it could've burnt off my eyebrow. Or even worse, it could've hit me in the eye and caused permanent eye damage or complete blindness. I mean yeah, it'll take forever to grow back out and it really sucks because I've been growing out my bangs for a while. But, I'm just glad I didn't have to be rushed to the hospital.
I find it terribly funny that my friend's family has been doing fireworks like that for about 15 years and not once have they had a problem until now. And I happen to be the only one who got hit.

After it happened, when my friend and I were seeing what it looked like in a mirror in the bathroom, we were both just laughing our butts off with tears streaming down our faces. It was just too funny not to laugh about.

It just sucks that it happened to my poor hair. But it makes me want to cry every time I reach up to feel it and all I feel is a little patch of stubs.

I have been shot hundreds of times. The forth was all about fireworks wars when I was a kid. Lots of minor burns but nothing big... Worst one that I remember was a bottle rocket that went in my shirt sleeve an went around and around my body till it blew up in the middle of my back. Stung for a few hours Not that anyone should ever do that stuff....

Came across Extreme Idiot videos last night. There were quite a few fireworks mishaps on those.Amazing what people get themesleves into.Glad you are ok. I have seen some pictures of people that did not fair well at all.

We were fishing at the coast on the night of the 4th of July this year. People on every side of us was shooting off fireworks. Some idiot to our right had the good ones. The mortars. They had the launch tubes and the fireworks were really pretty. Everything was going good until he loaded the morter and lit it.
On his retreat he knocked over the tube. It was pointing right at us. We did not know this until it exploded. It blew past us missing us by inches. When it got past us it exploded. I was not very happy. It could have hurt us but luckily it didn't. The guy appologized and I asked him to bury the tube down in the sand a little so it would not happen again. He took my advice.

Everyone else kept their distance and we enjoyed the show.
