Rant about neighbor's dog!

Okay, I probably didn't help much. He came down here hollaring for the dog. I went out and told him (and not too nicely) why the dog was in the kennel, and if it happened again I was calling the pound. He didn't say a word, just went and let the dog out, but he did put a baby gate on his door. And no we couldn't be trashy enough to run him out. When I was typing this up, he came complaining about me locking his dog up when my chickens run loose. Yes they do occasionally run in his yard. I guess I'll have to keep them in the kennel. I told him that legally I could shoot his dog and he couldn't do anything, (and yes I can in my county).

Is there a way to put a fence between your yard and his to keep the chickens on your side (mainly to keep the dog on its side!)

What a bunch of jerks!

Stealing eggs and chasing the birds and then wanting to garden where it's already dug up...Doom on them!

I'd keep my birds someplace where they can't cross the fence line or I'm sure some or all will turn up missing.

ya wanna know how I got my neighbors dog to stop comin onto my property and killing my chickens and chasing my steers around. I let it have it with the paintball gun I painted it good all over its butt!!! the good thing about that is there nontoxic. it hasn't come back since!!! it doesn't even think of crossing the road!!! I lost like 15 chickens to that dog!!! It was time for payback I warned the neighbors they just snickered and said they weren't responsible because my chickens were loose during the day!!!

Consider getting pair of geese. If you get the right breed (get babes and raise them) they are loyal, hardy, easy to feed and tame up beautifully. I say pair because I had one and she pined. I have 3 large dogs and the geese rule! They are totally protective of the free range chickens and ducks. I have Sebastopols which are gentle and good with people in general, but they chase any other marauder out of the yard!

You know I have thought about geese

Interesting. A paint gun is what my son suggested I get. He "not fo jokingly" said the dog's owners would get tired of them coming come full of paint, and it stings when you get hit. I'm thinking red paint.

Red paint from a distance might make them worry their dog got hurt...and if they came over to "discuss" (they don't sound like the discussing type - more the gripe and whine about it type) it you could say you saw your Roo (if you have one-or if they wouldn't know if you did or didn't have one) going after the dog for running the hens!

I suggest catching the dog and taking it to the shelter...

Can you talk to your hubbies grandmother and let her know what kind of problem the renters are causing? maybe get her to find someone else to rent the place?
