Rant about police- Update- Dismissed!

Buster, I know. I read your comments about the respect you have for your local law enforcement and I'm sure the officers appreciate it; as I do.
I'm sorry about what happened with your wife and I agree with the others on how to handle it in court.
The truth is there are bad cops, just like there are bad doctors, teachers, bosses......
My only problem is with those who want to call all cops bad when it's simply not true.
Good luck to you.

I can't tell you the number of times my SO has had what amounts to the same thing screamed at him by the driver of a car he's just stopped; sometimes before he's even had a chance to exit his patrol car.
He just smiles at them and says nothing as he hands them back their purse, wallet, briefcase, cell phone, you name it that they drove off and left sitting on the roof of their car.
Not every cop is assigned to traffic patrol. Some are detectives, others are in the schools keeping your kids safe.
Everyone wants a cop around when they've been robbed, had their car stolen, have a kid missing, etc. No one wants them around when they are the ones breaking the law.

I know you weren't directing this comment at me, but I'd like you to know that I've personally stopped sheriff's deputies that I see at the gas station or watching the road in front of my house just to thank them for patrolling for speeders on our road. I tell them how much I appreciate it because so many people think they need to go super fast down my road because it eventually leads to a freeway. I go out of my way to make sure they know that we appreciate their work there. I guess that's one of the things that frustrates me about this situation- we make it a point to go the speed limit around here and despite that, DW still gets busted and wasn't even in the wrong.

AND i DO believe that you are a good/decent person also!...i can tell that you are!....i honestly think it was just a screw-up somewhere/somehow...AND that you dont mean any ill toward the police!.....good luck in everything..

I've gotten 1 ticket in my life and it was while rushing my DD (then 18 months old) to the ER...and the officer stopped me - I showed him my daughter (who was voilently throwing up - like projectile vomiting -Exorcist style) in the backseat - and even had my pediatrician on the cell phone (on speaker) as they were waiting for me at the ER. Officer didnt budge - still gave me a ticket - I told him FINE - THEN ESCORT ME AND TICKET ME AT THE ER BECAUSE I HAVE TO GO NOW!

How fast was I going over the limit? 5 mph...

Was I speeding? Yes... I was.... was there a reason? Yes....I was trying to get to the hospital without driving recklessly....

I dont speed - and 5 mph for me was like going 20 mph over the limit.

He was doing his job...yes..but.... c'mon already - my daughter puked all over his uniform when he leaned into my backseat because he didnt believe me.

He did escort me however - which was nice of him so I could get there faster...and he was speeding to do so - how fast were we going at that point in time?

15 mph over the speed limit!!!

Sometimes... I wonder.... I got a ticket for 5 mph over - but he escorts me and we can go 15 mph over?? Alrighty then.....

and yes... I had to pay the fine!

LOL! I felt bad for him after she did that.... but....

He said to me after that happend "Oh...I guess she really is sick isnt she?"

I wanted so say to him "What ever gave you that idea Officer? Me telling you, her screaming, the puke everywhere or my pediatrician asking you to speak with him on the phone at all points during our conversation?"

It was my peds who finally talked him into the escort as they had an ambulance on standby just in case to take my daughter to MCV (she was previously in the hospital 2 days prior with Roto virus and they just let her out...). Once we got there, she was put into the abulance (after putting in IV's and whatnot) and transported to MCV (60 miles away).

Cant believe I still got a ticket..but.... what do you do right? I paid it, but I did chuckle a bit at the throw up situation. Poor officer... LOL!

That's crazy Deb! I have more stories about tickets and dealings with police than I care to mention here, but I also have had some really good experiences too.

I'm glad your daughter puked on the officer- certain ones are bad apples and that one sounds like he deserved it.

Geez folks, thats bad stuff. I got out of a speeding ticket once by pinching my son, he started squealing , the MP (a specalist) talked louder and louder and gave up, told me just go and feed that oor child. I know I'm evil but it helped. On a different occasion i took my very sick kid to the peditrican(RSV disease) and parked were i wasnt supposed to, got a ticket. But i went up there explained what happen and even had note from my ped about the 104-105F fever and they told me i didnt have to pay because of med emergency.

I have had something similar happen to me. We pulled in a gas station and were getting out of the car. I mean stepping out of the car doors open when a cop flew in behind us and told me i was speeding. WHAT!!! I was parked. He argued that i was speeding a couple of blocks down and he had to follow me till i stopped. So my friend and I argued with him ( yes i know not smart) and a small crowd was forming wondering what we did, so he said He would let me off this time.

I have a great love for people who risk their lives for us but this one was the other word for a donkey.

Ok, today is the day DW goes to court to plea. She took a video of the road to show that it's not posted anywhere. She took that with her but I don't know if she'll get to use it today because they will probably only set another date today to go to court again about it. I'll keep you posted. She left in plenty of time to get there by 9am, so we'll see what happens.
