Rant

Hi Emma,

Since you've been through this before, I'll forgo the usual, do they have enough room, protein, and clutter stuff as that all must be okay.

We do have bully issues here on occasion, and it's sometimes a hen, but it's outside so that I can throw things at her, like a glove, a bucket, whatever is in my hand. When she starts to pick on someone and sees me, she turns and goes the other direction, so she knows better. One hen wouldn't learn, and separating didn't work either. So I culled her. We had a homicidal rooster, a beautiful one too, and hubby culled him in the act of killing a hen.

Other than separating the victim or the bully out, the only thing left for me here is to eliminate the perpetrator(s).

I'm sorry I have no other ideas for you.

Well, I complain too much. Between the coop theft and the freak tornado and sudden death in hens and all the internal flock conflict, this was just not the experience I expected.

Garden hose???

I have a large coop for my chickens so they're not crowded and don't fight. (You can't ever give them too much room)I don't show favoritism to any of my birds. It can cause them to fight. Raising multiple birds of the same breed helps because they have more in common. If you got off to a bad start and have a bunch of bullies and feather pickers you might be better off rehoming these and raising a new batch.

My original hen only flock of 4 won't have have anything to do with my other chickens. They have their own coop and free range every day but scream if any of them go near them including the rooster. They never fight with anybody but they demand to be left alone
