Ranting Chicken's Reproductive Ill health.

I gave Mint an epsom salt bath yesterday, when I touch her rock hard big tummy, she twisted her legs, she must be filled with all the lash eggs.

Last night Mint looked really bad, I spend all night sleep near her to monitor her condition and the condition looked bad so I decided that today is the day I will set her free - at the vet or I do the deed.

This morning Mint insisted to get out of her sick bed so I let her into the garden, she ate a handful of corn, drank some water and off doing dirt bathing. I am all confuse now, am I to kill her after she had breakfast, and a clean dirt bath?

Ok, so this is going to drag on and on....so long she seems happy enough to hang around.....

So sorry for you and your girl... I have been through this with a couple of ISA browns. Great birds but just not worth the heartache...

I do have 2 Isa Brown in my flock now....

Mint is a mix from an Isa Brown rooster and a Wyandotte hen. Mint unfortunately inherit the Isa's brown ill health.

Sad she didn`t get more genes from the Wyandotte. We have a couple of GL Wyandottes great and friendly birds! We did have 5 ISA`s but lost two in Dec. Last three are good for now. They will be three in March. One of the remaining ISA`s went through bouts of lash eggs, soft shell eggs and looking sickly. She also had a bad prolapse that I was able to treat successfully. She was still eating and drinking and moving around ok. I just let her live and see what happens. About that same time I switched from a 16 percent layer feed to a 20 percent all flock feed. I had gotten her as a point of lay pullet and she was missing feathers all over. I thing she was plucking her own feathers. Well after switching feed all of her feathers have grown back and she seems and looks pretty healthy!

Sweet baby Mint. What a trooper. Their will to live is so strong and they fight as hard as they can. I can only imagine what is going on in her body.

We had a production breed - a Golden Comet - destined for a short life with her reproductive issues -- one lash egg and never laid another egg in her short 14 months on this earth. I understand what you're going through, as many others here do as well. It's heart breaking to watch them decline. Enjoy her with the time you have left. Wishing you the best.
