Do we want to change the minimum number of eggs to 3 or 4? I understand the problem with only having a pair. Also, quite a few of the rare breeds do not lay very well either. My Yokohama hen only lays 1 or 2 per week. Possibly we can split the number of eggs between breeds.

Breeds need to be separated for at least 3 weeks by the chicken science books. However, I've read that some people have fertile eggs for up to 6 weeks after when they have no roo. I've been waiting the 6 weeks. One thought I have pondered is, if a roo is in with your hens I would think 3 week old roo goo would be far less active than today's roo goo. That's a technical term by the way. Everyone let me know what you think. I would be willing to go with the 3 weeks.

Oh my, I've never heard of a Silky Duck. I looked up a picture. I'm enthralled. Now, I think I just might need more ducks. I have Woodies but they wouldn't be considered rare.

Hippie, we have to get you started with something to trade with. My Buttercup doesn't lay everyday at least not right now. I did just get some more of my chickens sorted last week. Would anybody be willing to get Hippie to doing some fertility checks? Do you have a chicken auction nearby? That would get you started quickly. I just bought a white Pekin trio this last week (bantam Cochin chickens not ducks). But once again, no eggs yet...

I'll go ahead and get everyone added to the list. Maybe it will take the egg swappers a couple of days to find the thread.

I was looking at your signature. Maybe you do have things to trade...

Is your guineas a pair? If so, what color?
Do you have a pair of peafowl?
Are your two colors of pheasants pair and separated?
Are your game chickens all one breed? Color?
What breed of quail do you have?

With what you have, I could see exceptions to numbers. This is rare poultry not just chickens.

I dont' know how rare my birds are?
I have
Barred rocks and will have some of the really old heritage barred rocks this April, however they are not in my hands now. My barred rocks now are good, however not from guarded heirloom stock.

Partridge bantum cochins (these are pretty good I think most would be very happy with them) they lay well and are as hardy as they come.

My goldenlace bantum cochins need work, they are rather dark, however I do have them if someone is desprate for new blood. I have some that are being bred to buffs as well.

Cucko silkies, and I don't have many of these I will let go of. Only one package of 6, and I would hope to trade for more cuckoos. These are pretty good, and think anyone would be happy with them.
