I would think Columbian, haven't seen any.....

Silver black is the same as birchen.

The "rarest" color? Probably one we haven't heard of yet.

Rare colors include Columbian, black-tailed buff, and gold salmon. Birchen is less rare than Columbian and gold salmon, and probably less rare than black-tailed buff.

Wheaten is one of the most common Marans varieties. The Marans Chicken Club is well on the way to getting APA recognition for wheatens right now. First we're doing black coppers, then wheatens. Next come cuckoos and whites. After that, we'll go down the line with the more rare colors.

With a bit of luck I'll have some birchen and blue birchen chicks in about 10 more days.

Wouldn't that just be the bee's knees?

What other breeds come in the mille fluer option?

D'Uccles
Cochins...still very developmental, no?
Leghorns? I just read something about these this morning, although nobody had a picture.

Silver Black is the hobby name for the recognised Birchen variety.
The rarest recognised Marans variety is the Columbian, also known as the Light & the Ermine.

Best breeding to use to make Lavender Marans would be Coronation Sussex X Black Marans , but it might take a decade to get the egg colour to an acceptable standard,
