ratio for chick starter and grit

Just throw some grit in a separate bowl and let them have it. I expose them to dirt in their first week if they are in a brooder, and those raised by broodies only their mother knows what sort of horrible things they get in their beaks.
I've witnessed a 2 days old chick swallow a huge stink bug whole. After that I stopped worrying about the size and quality of chick food items.
 
I also just put a bit on a small can, that way they can choose how much they get but the limited amount prevents them from overeating (which rarely does happen with very young chicks). I do bring mine clumps of grass from my yard to kick start their immune system starting the day after I get them home so it is important for me that they get grit very early on
