I am just starting out raising some broilers. I am using Joel Salatin's method for the most part including his pens. I have ordered 100 Red Bro's and they arrive mid-July. Joel's book. Pastured Poultry Profits is pretty detailed, but I need an estimate of the average amount of feed the chicks/broilers will consume per day from brooder to processing.
Does anyone have any experience or general ideas? I am researching feed types right now....I don't think ordering a ton would be feasible. I would like to stick to organic, but if it is cost prohibitive, I may not.
This first brood will be my experimental batch and will be for personal and friends consumption...if all goes fairly well.
Can someone help with feed amounts and perhaps local Virginia feed sources? (Fauquier, Culpeper, Prince William, Orange area).
Thanks!

Here's a link to info on broiler feed consumption from the Michigan State University, Cooperative Extension website.

Then Salatin says that pasturing reduces the need for commercial feed by 30%.

Hope that helps answer some of your questions
