Rats - Part Two - OMG what do we do now?

I reccomend going to TSC and getting the bait I believe its called Rampage it kills them within 12 - 24 hours of ingest... I use the plastic bait shelters to keep kids etc out of them... Rats are one of the worst things you can have on a farm thay carry haunta viris plague etc and eat chickens... You will never win the trap fight for every one you trap there are probably 10 more... Now about 3 - 4 years ago we all of a sudden had a huge rat investation bu the coop I tried the traps finally when I went out and counted 30 one night I pulled out the stops 5 pounds of bait were eaten in like 3 - 4 nites within a week the rats were all gone and I found only one body best thing I ever did... Now I just leave a few blocks out to keep the stray rat away but Ive never had the investation I did...

What is a rat zapper and where do you get them? We have barn cats that have done a great job. However, our neighbors farm has been empty since he died three years ago. That's where most of the rats and mice TRY to come across our pasture and into our place. I think it would be a good investment for me to put one in his barn which is on our property line.

can you move your chickens and blast a lovely tune with a lot of bass in it all day and night? the rats want a quiet place too, cheap and easy and should work

What do you use for bait? I have one of those and the rats completely ignore it with peanut butter as the bait. I have a smaller version of a zapper for mice and it worked really well for them.

A lovely poison called JustOneBite is the best remedy I've found. Even better that you can place it in the ceiling and your birds can't get it. It comes in the form of a cake or bars that the rats have to nibble and cannot store in their cheeks and eat later. Too big to carry off also. They actually come out of the buildings ~looking for water, I would guess. I place a bar and find dead rats outside the next day.

Word of caution: Be careful with this around dogs....it has lovely sweet molasses in it and they will gobble it all and ask questions later! If your dog has just ingested poison, give it hydrogen peroxide until it barfs....and, believe me, that dog will barf everything he ever ate back to puppychow days!!!

OK ratzapper question for you? Can u just place it on the floor of the coop or can the chickens get hurt with it? I have a rat I believe is eating my eggs because if I onto get them before dark they dwindle down from 6 to 1 or 2 tell me if I'm crazy if rats do t eat eggs...I've never seen it but I hear the straw moving when I'm in there alone in nesting boxes that nothing's supposed to be in

You will need to put it where the chickens can't have access to it or they could electrocute themselves while trying to get the bait (peanut butter). I put my zapper in the outside run at night and bring it back in in the morning before I let the chickens out.

I have never caught anything in mine but that is where all of the rat holes are so I thought it would be a good place. I know that the zappers work because I have a smaller version that I used when I had mice visiting my kitchen in the middle of the night.
