Yea my rats are sometimes too friendly. I have a rat named Veera that managed to escape from her cage the other night. Well my husband and I are sleeping and all of a sudden I feel something crawling on me. In our house this isn't uncommon because with as many animals as we have they like to jump in bed sometimes. Well I knew whatever it was to too light to be a cat and the dogs are blocked off downstairs at night. So I tell my husband to turn on the lights and I look down and Veera is sitting on my chest staring at me. All of my rats are easy to catch when they are out of their cages because like Veera they would rather come by "mommy" then run around by themselves.
But just like any other animal it depends where you buy your rat and how you raise it. I have gotten rats from a local pet store and they were super wild. I got them when they were babies and tried to tame them but no matter what I tried they wouldn't get any better. I think the breeding and the rats parents are really important. Thats why I took the babies away from my blue rats and gave them to another mommy rat because I didn't want them learning to be mean and skittish like the blue one.
