I used 2"x 4" fencing for my coop. I think rats and squirrels can squeeze through. My only worry would be that they may eat some of the food. Anything else to worry about. I imagine a rat or squirrel wouldn't have a chance against 4 adult hens. Right?

We have 2x3 fencing and a squirrel got in the other day to eat their food.

It really minded its own buisness grabbing a few bites to eat before running off again while the girls stood in the corner screaming at it.

It was actually kinda funny... no harm no foul that day.

We have 2x4 wire, with chicken wire around the bottom too, and lots of squirrels. So far I haven't seen any go in though. I think their a little scared of all those beaks on the other side!

I had this pesky squirrel eat with the chickens in the pen... Then I caught some rats going though 2 in chicken wire at night... Shot that one from the back of a SUV! Stupid rat, skimmed it twice before getting it on the third shot too.
