rats

There may be some good advice in that thread, but please don't use anticoagulant rodenticides. Rat poison effects more animals than the rats.
It’s a pretty horrible way to die for dogs, cats, anything really that gets at it.

I once had to pour ipecac down my Golden Retriever’s throat after she found rat poison. She barfed it out **PRO NOTE: DO THIS IN A BATHTUB!**, but she still had some major blood-related complications afterwards.

That must have been so scary! You are right, it's not a humane way to kill rodents either.

It’s pretty much the same chemical as was traditionally used for stroke prevention in atrial fibrillation in humans (warfarin/ coumadin). Essentially, it prevents your blood from clotting. Nowadays, there are other anticoagulants used for those with a-fib, but you still have to be careful about what you eat and about accumulating accidental bruises.

My dog also got hold of a chunk once that someone/something dropped in our front yard. She dropped it but I had no idea if she ingested any so I gave her hydrogen peroxide. Then drove to the vet. Should have thrown her in the bathtub instead of the car

Yes, peroxide has prodigious effects when it hits the warm stomach! 😂

(I ❤️my Golden Retriever Cinnamon, RIP.)
