Yes, I've denied it long enough. I have rats! How many? I don't know...but one is ENOUGH for me! I came home the other day at dusk, I went around back to go feed my duck. As soon as the motion sensor lights turned on I heard something rattling along the grass. And there goes this little black critter crawling up the fence post. I told myself it was nothing, but just incase I put pieces of rat poison on the fence. The next morning it was all gone, there was some powdery crumbs where I let the sticks of poison, I thought it did the trick. The day after that, at night, I took my dog outside and wanted to go on a little run on my treadmil. As soon as I climb on my dog starts whimpering and looking at me. He doesn't usually do that, so I could tell something was wrong. In a snap he was charging the treadmil with his head cocked. I figured there was a snake down there, so I climbed off and started to shake the teadmil. After a few seconds I hear some little pitter-patters coming from below. Here comes this little 6 inch rat, just tip toeing from under the treadmil. It acted so calm it was almost like I had just woken it up from it's little nest. I grab the hammer and steady my aim for the little bugger's head. I swear it looked at me and it's eyes enlarged several times. It took off, out of my open patio door, and toward the same fence post. What did I do next? The only thing I could think of, I aimed and threw the hammer in a split second. I heard the bang against the fence, and the rat was gone. Thinking I was defeated I went to claim my hammer, but wait, is that a worm? Nope, there was the rat's tail....half smushed, and bloody. LOL, looks like my hammer throw hit afterall, I smashed it's tail off! But my half-victory was short-lived....where there's one rat, there's bound to be a whole family. My chickens are growing and are almost ready to head outside, and my duck roams the yard. I havn't found any bodies, but I think the poison was inefective. Rat poison would probably be dangerous for my birds, so I threw it away. After looking online all I could think of was a simple bucket trap. I made just that with a small bungie-like cord and a emptied out tub of sour cream. So far the trap looks good, I'll bait it with peanust butter tonight. Hopefully I can catch something. Just wondering, but does anyone have experience with a bucket trap? Anyways, thanks for reading! Oh, and CURSE THOSE RATS!
