Rattlesnakes? Kill or scare away?

ohhh GAchick, I'm so sorry. Had my heeler been with me she would have ran right over this fella too. Reminds me now to get her Rattlesnake shot booster.

I'm so embarrassed to admit just prior to stumbling on this snake in PLAIN DAYLIGHT, I was busting through the brush laying a trail for my new corral/paddock. I probably walked through 10 like you all say. What a dip-poop!

oh, if it anywhere near my house or animals, it's soon to be headless. Too many kids and pets to shoo it away. It was just out on the trail so I was not sure?
Heck, it could be sleeping under my dresser right now in my bedroom (I left my back bedroom door open all day to the yard).

and no, I'm not on a farm. No little snake eating piggies for me.

Not politically correct, but I'd shoot them. I keep a snub-nose .357 loaded with snake shot on the tractor for this very purpose. I have two small children including one very autistic one. I cannot afford the luxury of permitting poisonous snakes on the property. Not to mention if I intentionally didn't shoot one I saw my wife would probably shoot me!

My DW was always telling me not to kill the rattlers, that was until our grand daughter almost steped on one. I saved the shovel she broke when she hit it. Poor snake never knew what hit it, cleanly cut in half. Any snake I see in the wild is free to go on its way. Any poisonous snake on my property doesn't leave, I find a nice spot to bury it. I have to many kids playing around here to take a chance they will be biten. I can replace my critters, but not the kids. Even if some are a pain in the backside at times.

I don't like to kill snakes but if I thought it was poionous in any way ,I wouldn't hesitate.

A lot of years back a snake was cozy under the plastic I had around my rabbit house that I had not taken off for the season. I didn't kill it at first but this was long before I had a pc to search snake kinds so I killed it because I go up there at all different times.

I still hate I did that but it was patterned and I didn't know what kind.

Yup. Any snake seen in the woods gets a free pass as much as I am able. Venomous snake + putting me and mine in danger = hot lead!!! Black rat, garter, water, grass, and milk snakes are basically welcome here. Rattlers and Copper Heads, not so much.
