Our ravens can be the size of a hawk... the one's who ate my bird... the ring leader had an almost 5' wing span

After trying to put the birds away last night in the dark... with the fishing line webbing.... I just went and purchased a 20x100 foot piece of herring netting one inch holes made of super duty fishing line, 75.00 and worth every cent, I have three sets of pole for a gazeebo tent set up but no gazeebo... it was meant to be!!

RAVENS???

The Ravens around here have never seemed interested in my girls. I live in So. Cal. and our Ravens are as big as out chickens. But I have never worried about them getting one of my girls. I'd like to see my roo get hold of a raven though, he is TOUGH.

I have seen makeshift scare crows made out if sticks and branches with clothes on them to keep birds from destroying their crops I bet something like that could work in addition to what you have already done at a minimal cost (wooden sign stakes from the hardware store would work well). The dead raven idea..... Most of the time around holloweeen they have crow/raven decor that look pretty realistic. Around here the crows protect the chickens and run off the eagles/hawks, I guess there is plenty of road kill around to keep them from getting tooo vicious.

You knew someone just had to say it eventually!

I think some of you (no offense!) are confusing crows and ravens. While they are both black, ravens are VERY large birds, much bigger than crows, with a curved instead of flat beak like a crow. And now I get to worry about them - along with every other north american predator known to man - eating my chickens! Eep!

Scarecrows don't work for ravens (already tried that). Heck, me being in the yard jumping up and down, yelling my fool head off doesn't work for ravens...

I'll let you all know how the owl decoy works but I'm not holding out a lot of hope for that since I rescued an injured owl from a bunch of ravens... It's worth a try though.

Wow - I don't even know if we have Ravens around here or not - I've seen plenty of pretty good size crow but as far as I know they have never been too much of a problem . Now you all on this thread have me thinking about Suzanne Pleshette in " The Birds" getting her eyes pecked out!!! LOL

There's some poem about a dead soldier ( in broad Scottish dialect) by Robert Burns where two crows peck out the eyes of a dead soldier, think it's called "Twa Corbies'....translates as 'two crows'....so they are pretty gross!
