Ravens vs. Crows vs. Ducks

Where I live we have Ravens. They steal eggs they will take small chicks but I’ve never had a problem with them going after my chickens. The only time I had troubles is when I put out a waffle for my chickens to peck at. Came out 5 minutes later the whole thing was gone! I thought I’d be smart and catch the raven on video so I made another waffle. I put it down walked a few steps to get just the right angle for my shot then turned around and it was Gone! Dang...all I saw was a winged waffle heading into the distance. They’re fearless!

Love »winged waffles«
:gig:lau

Thank you very much for the good wishes!
I have a special needs duck, Limpy has a problem with his left leg and spend most of his time by himself (and two rubber ducklings) in the pool. I really need to observer this very closely. Those ravens are almost the same size as my two smaller females, but their beaks look even scary to me… If they get along nice with my Duckies, i won't be worried about any hawk anymore.
I’d watch Limpy! They’d find him tempting! Hopefully, the ravens will decide to buddy up with crows like mine do and attack hawks! I heard stories of them untying knots and entering coops! :th

Update: This morning there were two ravens walking on the pasture and the Ducks and the Ravens seem to talk with each other. The ravens start with their »rrraab, rraab«, »krax, krax, korax« sounds, the ducks answered »duck, duck ,duck«, it went on for half a minute and then the ravens started to say »ruck, ruck, ruck«. Negotiations about hawk protection for food scraps? Since i let the ducks out, no ravens around anymore.

Yes, according to various web-sites ravens are as intelligent as parrots. They have been seen using tools, problem solving behavior and team-work. I will have an eye on Limpy.

:lau I hope your ducks can negotiate a peace treaty!
