Ravens...what are they doing?

I would watch a raven and see what he's up to? Like crows they are very opportunistic and smart. I have seen a single crow in the spring with baby robin's in it's beak and parents chasing after it. A raven can be quite a bit larger. Odds are he's sneakin food, but he could be carrying disease and that is a greater concern. They are cool birds to watch and listen too.

Since I have seen the crows around here chase off hawks and owls, I actually leave them treats of eggs and corn here and there on top of the various runs. I feel like they earn it. They have never caused a problem here. Though, I believe actual ravens are larger than standard crows. Having said that, when we have chicks and ducklings, they always stay in an enclosure until they are big enough I don't feel I need to worry.

I will need to get a pick of the raven next time I see it (before DH scares it away by letting our dogs our or shooting the BBQ in the general direction...not at the bird, of course!). It is definitely a raven...not a crow. These guys are huge...probably similar height to the hens (obviously built much different). They aren't after the eggs since the nests are inside the coop (no where in sight for the raven).

i think your right to keep an eye on him. over here we dont have alot of ravens but a slightly smaller coz The 'hooded' or 'grey' crow horrible bird.
have spent a lot of time traping and shooting then. they have bin seen to take chicks as old as 8 weeks and i have on more than once seen them disimbowl sheep who have fallen and cannot get up. if it was me id dispatch him before he causes a problim, but then i am a bit of an ice man when it comes to pests and vermin.

He is there to eat, period. He may take feed if he can get it with no risk. He may not find anything small enough to kill by himself. A flock of them would kill though, given the opportunity.
