Raw Milk

I bought a "share" in a dairy cow on a local farm and have been drinking the raw milk for more than a year now. It is sweet and good. I never liked milk before I started drinking raw milk. And my daughter will no longer drink milk at her school cafeteria. She says it tastes nasty compared to the raw milk she drinks at home.
I think the advice to know your source is good. I toured the farm and learned how the cow is cleaned and prepared prior to milking before I bought my "share."

Raw milk is wonderful if it is handled properly. Like has been mentioned know your source.

My dad has had dairy cows a few times but, I never did get the taste for raw milk. I don't like processed milk either. I love using the cream for butter and whipping nice and fresh tough!

Same here! I never liked milk till I went with my son to a place that sells it and for some reason decided to get some. Boy is it good! Easier to digest too. The pasteurization process, it turns out, destroys enzymes in raw milk that help you digest the lactose.

I really like raw milk, we go through 3 gallons a week and there is only 4 of us! with the store bought milk we barely went through a gallon a week.

though it may be more expensive ( both price wise and gallon per week wise) it is the better choice. Healthier, tastier, and ( I guess I have to include this here to) expensiver.

I'm so fortunate to have found my milk source! It's illegal to advertise it here in Oregon, but legal to sell it from the farm. The farmer lives in a tiny town about 35 miles from me, where I just happen to see the majority of my patients. So, since I'm already there, I stop in once a week and pick up two gallons of creamy goodness! When we first came out, we took a tour, met the girls, saw the milking area, etc. Plus, he feeds the milk to his own children, for heaven's sake! Talk about being vigilant. And it's only five dollars a gallon. I know if he were closer to town it's be almost double that.

Milk tastes best stored in glass jars. And the fresh, non homogonized *don't think that's spelled right* milk, the cream on the top tends to stick to the plastic and be difficult to shake into the milk to mix it. So I just bought two boxes of the half gallon canning jars, and the white screw on lids. I take out clean jars, pick up my milk, and he's got clean jars to fill for next time.

I've not done much butter or cheese, but am making a lot of yogurt. I'm using it instead of mayo in a lot of recipes, we low carb so were eating a lot of mayo. The yogurt adds a tangy flavor, and so much healthier. Until I start making my own mayo, at least. So many projects, so little time!

Donrae that is exactly how we transport our milk as well. We use the glass 1/2 gal juice bottles for in the fridge (Wal-Mart has them).

Oh I am so thrilled, my oldest DH has to write a persuasive argument paper; and of course it is going to be on allowing the purchase and consumption of natural milk here in WI!
