Rcom Suro King Incubator official thread ***HIGH ALERT***see post 93

Unfortunately, I'm not the only one who has had a problem with the Rcom. Alot of fellow BYC'ers have lost eggs to a faulty Rcom.

I really thought I had done my research, and that the Rcom was suppose to be "plug & play". Maybe they just made a bad batch.

The warranty is for 1 year~~just hope they honor it....if not, guess I'll have to turn the credit card co. loose on them...lol.

I did have several GREAT hatches before it went capooey

man, now I'm wondering if I made the right decision! Well to boot, my 15 month old son helped me out while I was at work. I called home as I often do during my lunch break and my wife casually says, oh, little guy pulled down the incubator top... GAH! So right now I'm letting it run again and see if temps get back to where it should. But yeah, it might say it was 99.5 but no way! I have three small digital thermometers in there right now and just keep adjusting the temp to get it right. I sure hope my son didn't break it. But that's almost a six foot fall that part of the bator had. No eggs in it yet. Just want to let it run. And I guess now...run some more...

I've done my 'homework' on incubators and had even asked several customers

and while I received good reviews, I also received bad ones.
In one bad reviews, this guy used his Suro for incubating Quail eggs and he complained that he had a bad hatch rate and that he had to calibrated his suro to get it right. The good reviews outnumbered 2 bad ones and I thought they 'sounded' better than those polystyrene Hovabators. So I scrimped like mad to get one and hope that I wont be in the same situation as the unlucky fellows.

So my first incubation was good

(because I set the temperature up higher), then my experience with Suro 'slided downhill' to my number 4 incubation of 'utter failure.'

I'm guessing that my Suro is out of wrack with it own settings but I can't tell until my new hygrometer device arrives. It probably wont be here for a few days yet

Oh dear nodaksnakelover! Hows the little one? I hope the suro top didn't fall on him. I'm sure the manufacturer would've made them strong in case of something like that could happen (I mean it could easily happen with the amount of cords all over the place!).
Hows the settings now?

That reminds me of another problem with the Suro~~~the lid will survive a fall, because my lid had a habit of falling of~~never did figure out why....a small piece of duct tape on each side cured THAT problem though

My son didn't get struck by the falling lid. But he had pulled the tube out of the gallon water jug so the line is full of air spots. I plugged it back in and just let it run till today. Temps were off a wee bit and the humidity was almost nowhere. Found out he had somehow gotten the cord for the pump unhooked so I had to hook that back up and the pump has been running like mad. I picked up six more eggs from my mother in law. About half her birds are Chanteclers. Her two roosters are Chanteclers. My rat pack as they got named, are a mix of, single dark brahma, single light brahma, three black stars, two buff orpingtons, two partridge rocks, one white rock, one barred rock, and two silver laced wyandottes. Though I don't care for all the things that go wrong in trying to incubate eggs. When I do get something to hatch. It's always worth the effort! This is my first fully automatic incubator. And if things get settled soon I'll go ahead and pop the eggs into it. I want them to be hatching over Christmas so my six year daughter and I can enjoy watching the hatch. But again, these birds are pretty young yet, so not sure the roosters are doing their duty. My other problem is three digital thermometers are giving me three different readings! Though the two are close and I'm assuming it's just cause the third is measuring the side of the incubator. But I would think that a fan would make things more even than it is. Incubating snake eggs is SO much easier...

HIGH ALERT!!!

Suro King #1

Purchased in April 2010; had about 5 good hatches; fan began making loud noise intermittently after a couple of months but still working well; not used for another couple of months; began making loud noise again and I couldn't get it to stop; went to candle on day 14 and the eggs were stone cold with blood rings, even thought the readouts were exactly as I had them set. Lost every egg in the incubator to the tune of about $75.00, not including the $350.00 incubator itself.

Suro King #2

About a month ago, I purchased a second one because the first one had been working well. The turning cradle quit working within 24 hours of receiving the incubator and I had to hand turn the eggs. I immediately notified JMT Distributors who notifed Rcom to send me another one. I still haven't received it and the hatch is now on lockdown and due 12/6. Shortly after receiving #2, #1 died (see above). I'm now livid and begin to try to contact someone. This is a feat in itself!!

After a very direct email to the distributor and Rcom, I received permission to return #2 for a refund. That will be done very soon as I now no longer trust the bator. Of course, the warranty for the #1 bator is only 6 months and I'm JUST out of the warranty period...of course! They want me to ship it to them as my expense and they will repair it for a $50 labor charge plus whatever the parts cost. That will be about 1/2 of what a new one cost. I think I'm better off to cut my losses now, sell it for whatever I can get and use that $$ toward a Dickie.

I don't think they have these incubators perfected yet. I certainly wouldn't trust them for expensive eggs...and that seems to be all I have!!

Wrong...the warranty for all incubators sold after January 2010 is only 6 months!! Think they know they have a problem???

Here is the email:

"Judy,
I double-checked & the warranty on all units sold after Jan 1st 2010 is 6 months so yours is out of warranty. We are also no longer a repair center for these units. The only repair center in the USA now is Lyon in San Diego. We stopped being a warranty repair center after October 2010. I again want to let you know I understand your frustration. Please contact Maggie at Lyon for repair & if you have further questions about warranty please discuss with them as they need to make the decision.

I have copied Maggie at Lyon in San Diego and am asking that she return email you. If you don't hear from her within a day please email her at [email protected]

I have also again copied the manufacturer with our communication. Again, I am sorry you have experienced this problem."

I wanted to add..."Not nearly as sorry as I am that I bought this crappy thing!!"

oh just wonderful...Ok, let it be said, do NOT buy this incubator...but in the mean time...LOL! Anyhow, Judy, thank you for sharing that information. I sure hate wasting money...should have gone with a Brinsea product...something I HAD been thinking of but ended up with the King Suro...

You can return it for a refund within the 6 month warranty period and I would highly suggest that you do that before your warranty runs out!!

They must know that there is a problem because they changed the warranty from 1 year to 6 months...

Can you tell I'm PI$$ED???

For the amount of $$ that I have put into the two incubators, I could have purchased a top of the line Dickey or Sportsman and not have had all the lost eggs. I would have SAVED money!!

I told Rcom that I would be posting my experiences on this message board, The Coop and my business Facebook page.

I would love to see everyone return theirs if possible or at least barrage Rcom with complaints.

The email address is in a post above...
