Re-homing a Rooster and adding hens.

I currently have 2 hatch-mates, a rooster and a pullet. I've found a new home for him, and I'm looking to add 3 - 4 bantams, or 2 larger hens asap.

My question is would it be best to get older bantams and do a slow intro to the pullets I already have, or go ahead and get hatchlings and introduce them once they're bigger? She's been with the rooster since they hatched and I don't want her to be too lonely for too long.

I would get hatchlings if it were me you never know what your going to get when you get someone else's muture rooster

It sounds as if 'started pullets' would be the best choice for you. If you get hatchlings you may be adding more cockerels rather than the pullets you apparently want.

Good point...tho chicks are safer(pests and disease) and easier to add IMO.

I found a great home for George! When they came to get him, I went ahead and gave them Martha as well so they can stay together.

I'll be starting from scratch with my own hatchlings, and it's not as foreboding now that I have access to a family who's able to take in roosters.

George and Martha were great additions to the menagerie, however, I have a neighbor who's not animal friendly. While the hens make a bit of noise throughout the day, it's not the same as a full-grown rooster. Under the circumstances it's hens or nothing
