Is there a special way? Should I put her in at night when they are roosting? Or should it be just fine if she goes back any old time? She's going to have been out of the coop for a few days.

Also, is there a special tool to put pine tar on? I haven't bought it yet so I dont know what it looks like--paint brush? stick? I'm going to put it on Dolley and Roz cuz they get the most pecked.

Putting her in at night is a great idea. Just watch the following morning to see if they accepted her. If not then you might have to take a more drastic measure like the cage inside the cage technique.

I have no experience with pine tar oil. I am sure a paint brush or popsicle stick or a tongue depressor would work. There is also a product called blu-kote. It comes in a spray can so no messy applicator.

Hope this helps!

I've put wound kote on her--isn't that the same thing? It's purple and it has absolutely no effect on their pecking, except their beaks turn purple.

I opened a new can of pine tar last night. I used a throw away heavy duty plastic spoon to apply the tar to Taliban's badly picked butt. I haven't checked him today, but hope it's doing better.

The pine tar was thick, but came out pretty easily with the spoon, rather like peanut butter.

Hope this helps,

Oh my. Sorry it didn't work for you. I have never had a pecking problem. Just used it for wounds and works just fine for me. Maybe you should up the protein.
