Hello all!!
I am re-introducing myself, as there have been some huge changes in my bird raising life! I also was just notified that it’s my 1 year anniversary!
I started by randomly bringing home a hen and her 6 chicks. I was NOT prepared!
Today, I have a coop and run with 15 hens and a rabbit inside. Now for the changes:
At the end of the month, I am moving to a full ranch! Complete with over 100 chickens - free-range and in two giant coops. I also now have 40 goats, two turkeys, and peafowl, and will be adding quail And maybe ducks soon!
I was feeling pretty confident with my backyard flock. But just today, I have a hen with an abscess on her foot, a rooster who lost an eye in a fight, and four new squawking chicks. So if you have medical advice, send it my way.
I have also started a breeding coop, and need to repair the old coops. I also need to build a quail run and decide about the duck coop and pond. Are their eggs really healthier? I’ve already lost a Peahen, how can I protect them at night? I’ll be doing a lot of reading this month, feel free to respond to my posts or message me directly. Or, if you’re in Southern California, come on by for a (socially distant) visit!
