We have an old camper on our property that we were storing for a fella, but he now wants to just haul it to the dump. I look at it and see a beautiful chicken coop. It is about 14-16 feet long and maybe 8 feet wide. It has one door, several windows and vents and appears to not have any leaking problems. It is full of that mans junk and would be quite an undertaking to gut it and convert it to a coop, but I think it has great potential and would be a better use of it than ending up in the local dump!

I have only seen one set of pictures where someone has done this...if you have any links or ideas...pros and cons of this idea please share.

Thanks!

Sounds like a fun project!!!

OOO! Yes, I have had the same thoughts. Love it and in fact, I hope I can do the same. I have thought about it many times. I look on Craigslist all the time for one in the area. It's a perfect, free idea! Fun project for sure! Be sure to take before and after pictures.

I am interested in knowing if people who have done it before kept the wiring intact so they could run lights, fans etc. I think I could do most of the gutting by myself, but would need to DH to help with the remodel. I like the idea of it being quite secure and contained. We live in Wyoming with very cold windy winters. Thought it would be nice. I can just see it now with some flower boxes outside the windows and what not...very cute and a great way to re-use.

I saw a picture of one somewhere but can't remember where!!! Maybe do a search of this site....I looked really cool, they used the cupboards for nesting boxes!!!
