Hello all, thank you for letting me join. I'm a new Chicken momma and need advise, I think this is the right thread. I live in Alabama and we got snow this week. I know I jumped the gun and overreacted by bringing my 3 hens inside but I was afraid with the sudden temp drop and the snow ot would be harmful to them so... I brought them inside, I'm learning that was a terrible mistake and now I'm afraid of reacclimateing them back outside. It's 70 in my house and it's supposed to start warming up, tomorrow is a high of 50 but a low again of 20... idk what to do. Do I put them back in their run tomorrow and just keep an eye on them or what is the best option to getting them back out? They've been inside since Tuesday afternoon. They are not yet a full year, 2 are called olive Eggers and the other is a leghorn I believe. Please help but again I understand I made a mistake bringing them inside in the first place.

Hi, welcome to the forum! Glad you joined!

You did no harm. Just put them back outside. They have not been inside long enough to lose their acclimation. Nature would be really cruel if they lost their acclimation that fast.

When I was in Arkansas we could go from below freezing to the 70's Fahrenheit in a day and stay that warm for a while before it dropped below freezing again. They can handle those temperature swings.

Thank you! I will put them back out Today then! Really means a lot you answered, I was so nervous I'd hurt them.

Thank you!!! I put them back in the run today but it's still tarped to keep the wind off of them. If they are not acclimating well how long before I should see signs? Right now they are eating drinking, playing in the dirt and one is in the nesting box. They've been about 2 hours.

If the current conditi0ns were a problem, just a few minutes.

I really think their current behavior is telling you something. If you are that concerned take them back inside.
